ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS
For absolute beginners. Students are taught how to use a sewing machine and an overlocker by making their own samples to keep for future reference. Confidence to use various tools and machines is the focus for this course.
TEEN SEWING 1
Teaches students how to make their own basic pyjama pants from their own fabric. During the process of making this garment the students will learn how to read pattern instructions and gain general knowledge for future sewing projects.
TEEN SEWING 2
This course is for confident sewers. Students bring along a pattern of their own choice for a simple garment. It is advisable to discuss your choice of pattern with the tutor at time of enrollment to ensure suitability.
MERINO 1
The first lesson constructs samples from stretch fabric to keep as reference. Younger students who need to gain more confidence sew a scarf as an introductory item. Students will construct a simple jersey from own commercial pattern with help from the tutor. For students confident with a sewing machine and overlocker. Students construct a top from their own commercial pattern using mainly the overlocker. Samples will be made by the students to demonstrate how to sew necklines, seams and hemlines using this stretch fabric.
MERINO 2
A continuation of Merino 1 and gives students an opportunity to continue to master the skill necessary to construct garments from stretch fabrics. A loose fitting cardigan or hoodie as a follow on garment from the Merino 1 course is constructed during this course from a pattern provided by the student.
